The team and NHS Talking Therapies Hampshire history

NHS Talking Therapies Hampshire (formerly italk) is a team of Solent Mind and Southern Health NHS Trust staff working together.

An IAPT Service

Our service was launched in September 2010 as part of a national NHS plan called Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT)

It means that anywhere you live in England, there will be a local talking therapy service similar to ours. Together, IAPT services treat more than a million people each year.

In December 2023, the service changed its name from italk to NHS Talking Therapies Hampshire. Same service, new name.

Evidence Based Therapies

All IAPT services follow guidelines set by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE)

This means we only use types of talking therapy that have been proven to work. These guidelines help us to make sure we offer the treatment options that are most likely to work for you.

It also means that if there's a service that's likely to work better for you, we'll tell you and make a referral if needed.

Part of the wider NHS family

NHS mental health services are arranged into 5 "steps" based on the level of support they provide. This is called the "stepped care model".
